History
Friends of the Air, Earth and Water was formed in spring 2018 in response to the proposal by the REIT (real estate investment trust) Prologis to build a 340, 298 square foot warehouse/manufacturing/high-cube warehouse/distribution center at the northeast corner of Redondo Beach Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, with 24-hour, seven day a week operation and the capacity to have more than 768 diesel truck trips per day coming to and going from the site, which is surrounded by apartments, homes, sports fields of a park, an elementary school, day care centers, senior care centers, and churches.
The proposed warehouse will “draw significant new air pollution into the Harbor Gateway North community,” per the September 5, 2018 comment letter from State Attorney General Javier Becerra.
In 2020, the group incorporated as a 501c3 (85-4146353) to protect and advance the environment.
